Alexander Column
Designed by Auguste de Motferrand and erected in 1834 on Palace Square, the Alexander column is the monument to the Russian victory in the war with Napoleone Buonaparte. The column is the tallest monument of this kind in the world.

Bronze Horseman (Medny Vsadnik)
This monument to Peter the Great is one of the main symbols of the city. It was made by the order of Catherine II and erected on Senate Square in 1782. The monument got the name 'Medny Vsadnik' (Cooper Horseman) after Alexander Pushkin wrote the poem about it.

Monument to Catherine the Great
The period of Catherine II's reign is often considered as 'the gold century of Russian Empire'. The monument erected in 1873 shows Catherine II surrounded by her friends and great persons in Russian history such as Potyomkin, Suvorov etc.

Monument to Peter the Great
Carlo Bartolomeo Rastrelli made the model of the monument during the life of Peter I, but the statue was finished and erected after the death of the sculptor, in 1800. The monument was placed in front of the Mikhailovsky Castle.

Monument to Alexander Nevsky
The monument to the great commander and politician Alexander Nevsky, who is also a patron saint of St Petersburg, was erected in 2002. It stands on the square of the same name, in front of Alexander Nevsky Lavra, the monastery founded by Peter the Great in 1710. See the statue on the map

Horse Tamers on the Anichkov Bridge
The permanent stone bridge was built across Fontanka River in 1785. It was named as Anichkov Bridge. Four figures of the Horse Tamers sculptured by Peter Clodt were installed on the bridge in 1851.

Monument to Nicholas I
It is not just one more statue of one of the members of Romanov dynasty. The monument, made by the famous sculptor Peter Clodt, is unique by its engineer solution - the 6-meter horse statue has only two supporting points (the hind hoofs of the horse).

Monument to Alexander Pushkin
It seems that this monument was in front of the Russian Museum forever, but actually in was placed there only in 1957. Sculptured by Mikhail Anikushin it is considered as one of the best monuments of the famous Russian poet.

Monument to Alexander Suvorov
The great general who never lost a battle, Alexander Suvorov died in 1800. And in 1801 his monument made by the order of the emperor Pavel I was erected on Marsovo Pole. Alexander Suvorov is sculptured as youthful Mars, symbolizing invincibility of Russian army.

The monument to Ivan Krylov
The statue of the famous Russian writer of fables Ivan Krylov was made in 1855 by the sculptor Peter Clodt. The statue is situated in the Summer Garden. Ivan Krylov is surrounded by people and animals which are heroes of his fables.
