Since it was opened in 1833,
Mikhailovsky Theatre had many names:
Mikhailovsky, Leningradsky Maly opera
and ballet Theatre, Peterburgsky Maly
opera and ballet Theatre, then since
1989 – Petersburg State Academic
Mussorgsky opera and ballet Theatre.
The theatre got its original name back in
2001.
The repertoire of the Mikhailovsky theatre
contain the classical opera and ballet
performances such as Carmen, Eugene
Onegin, Faust, Iolanthe, Prince Igor,
Rigoletto etc.
The brilliant company of the opera
singers and ballet dancers is headed by
Olga Kapanina and Mikhail Messerer.
Farukh Ruzimatov and Elena Obraztsova
are the Artistic Advisors of the theatre.
