    Oranienbaum
This land was presented by Peter the
Great to his favourite
Alexander
Menshikov
in the beginning of XVIII
century. In 1710 the construction of the
Grand Palace. After Alexander Menshikov
fell in disgrace in 1727, the land with all
buildings was confiscated from him.

Each new owner of the land added
something to it.
Peterstadt fortress was
built for the Grand Duke Peter
Fyodorovich in the Upper Garden. The
residence called ‘
My own countryside
house
’ was designed and constructed for
Catherine II in the Upper Garden as well.

The residence wasn’t damaged in the
Second World War, but for a long time it
was unused and became desolate. The
restoration work started in 1990s.

Now you can visit
two museums: Stone
Hall and Palace of Peter III. Stone Hall
was built in 1749-1751 probably by the
design of Frederiko Rastrelli. Now there
is the exhibition of sculpture.

Palace of Peter III is located in the
Peterstadt Fortress. It was designed by
Antonio Rinaldi and its construction
finished in 1762. Now this is a museum
where you can see the interiors of the
epoch of Peter III.

In spite of the fact that now the most
buildings of the residence are under
restoration, Oranienbaum is worth a visit

wonderful park with
picturesque ponds and avenues.
