The down of the Orenburg goats is the thinnest in the world. That's why the shawls made of this down are so valuable.
There are different kinds of the Orenburg shawls. The plain shawl is grey and thick, and it is very warm.

The 'Pautinka' (spider web) shawl is made of the finest down thread and silk. Usually it is white and its costs is very high.
The modern manufacturing of the Orenburg shawls is still concentrated in Orenburg region. The shawls can be machine-made or handmade. Machine-made shawls are coarser than handmade items and their cost is lower.
The Orenburg shawls were very popular in the end of XIX - beginning of XX century. The French even tried to breed the Orenburg goats, but it wasn't successful. As it turned out, the down of the goats can keep its properties only in the climate of the Orenburg region.
