    Pavlovsk
The land presented by Catherine II to her
son Paul I was used by him to build his
new residence now is known as
Pavlovsk. The palace was designed by
the architect Charles Cameron. The
construction began in 1782 and lasted for
50 years.

During the life of
Paul I the residence was
the place for many entertainment events
and festive occasions. After Paul I was
murdered in 1801 his widow Maria
Fyodorovna became the lady of the
palace.

After her death in 1828 the palace had
several owner, the last was the Grand
Duke Ioann Nikolaevich. After the Great
October Revolution the palace was
nationalized.

The rich
collection of the Pavlovsk Palace
has
about 57000 items related to XVIII-
XIX centuries. The collection includes
paintings, porcelain, glass, sculpture,
applied art pieces made of gold, silver,
bronze, ivory, amber. You can also see
unique furniture and fabric.   

The special pride of the Pavlovsk Palace
is its garden designed in the traditions of
an
English landscape garden. The area
of the garden is about 600 hectares. The
hilly scenery in the Slavyanka river valley
decorated with the buildings designed in
a classic style makes an unforgettable
impression on visitors.
